Availability Of Food Grains
Food grain Position Under Public Distribution System in the State
The Ration card holders in the state are supplied foodgrains under Public Distribution System. The State of Maharashtra is a deficit State in foodgrain production. The food grain requirement is met by procuring foodgrains from local foodgrain producers, importing foodgrains from other States and by procuring foodgrains from Central Government under Public Distribution System.
All the beneficiaries do not purchase their sanctioned quota at once. Further, the cardholders do not purchase full allocated quota every time. Whenever the open market prices of the foodgrains are higher than the prices under the Targeted Public Distribution System(TPDS), the requirement of foodgrains under TPDS increases
