Regarding the preparation of Maharashtra Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2025-
Due to increasing industry and trade, the current metrology system is not able to achieve the objective and quality of verifying and stamping weights and measures for maximum users due to insufficient manpower. Therefore, under the government’s Ease of Doing Business policy, it is necessary to allow private laboratories to conduct verification and stamping of weights and measures through valid metrology systems in a fast, accurate and transparent manner through a third party. The main objective of framing the Maharashtra Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2025 is to verify and stamp weights and measures through these laboratories. Accordingly, with a view to establishing the said parallel system, the matter of preparing Maharashtra Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2025 and publishing them with the approval of the Central Government is under consideration of the Government.

    Completed

The draft of Maharashtra Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2025 was sent to the Central Government for approval on 11.02.2025. The Central Government has recently approved the said draft after suggesting some amendments. Accordingly, a proposal has been submitted for amendments to the said rules as per the advice of the Department of Law and Justice.
